I take your point that I would not have Mash, Kuyt and Lucas in the team all at the same time but there hasn't been a lot of options available considering the injuries this year.

I would point out that the stats also do not support the view that our problems are in midfield/attack. There are only 3 teams who have scored more then Liverpool this year. But there are 11 teams who have let in fewer goals including bottom placed Portsmouth. I know where I would be looking for improvement but I also have to accept that the injuries we have had in defense makes this difficult to deal with.

Yep, have to agree ,oz. Unfortunately I think we may struggle at the back all year unless a few things change ie the form of Skrtel , also Carra to a certain extent and Agger has to stay healthy. I've not got a lot of faith in the Greek , how I wish we'd have been able to get Turner in the summer.

And that unfortunately speaks volumes about us at the moment as a club speko.

If that's united Chelsea and now city in the same situation I'm sorry but they are by-passing young Turner or Shawcross, they are on the phone to the Hammers ' how much for Upson?'.... 15 mil 'we'll give ya 12 cash'..... done.

That's the difference

I'm still worried that Carra looks to be past his best and that Agger cannot seem to get past persistent injuries. I like Skrtel but I would prefer him as our number 3 and I don't see him being anything but this.

Purslow looks to be shifting the club into a better financial direction, the recent deals are very encouraging. But this isn't going to be enough for us to close the financial gap. The best it will do will slow the gap from widening.

My only hope is that the youth plan does pay dividends over the next 3-5 years. So far it is beginning to look promising and I hope we see more youngsters breaking through to the first team.

On the other hand, with a 4 month "test drive" not going so well, the amount involved means made sense to take the offer on the table rather than continue to gamble 17m that he would come good?
